Parathyroid Gland Disorders

Diagnosis

Precise Diagnosis and Targeted Intervention

Accurate diagnosis of parathyroid gland disorders is essential for effective management for primary hyperthyroidism. We utilize blood tests to measure calcium and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. Imaging studies, such as neck ultrasound. sestamibi scans, or CT scans may be used to help locate abnormal parathyroid gland(s).

Our goal is to provide a precise diagnosis, enabling us to tailor a specific treatment plan.

Care

Restoring Calcium Balance and Improving Quality of Life

Our care strategies for parathyroid gland disorders focus on restoring calcium balance and improving quality of life.

In many cases, mildly elevated calcium levels in primary hyperparathyroidism can be observed with appropriate consideration to hydration, other medication effects on calcium and stable dietary calcium intake. If high calcium levels caused by primary hyperparathyroidism lead to symptoms or exacerbation of other disease states (osteoporosis, kidney stones or kidney disease), a more aggressive medication or surgical approach may need to be considered.

For low calcium levels related to hypoparathyroidism, often medication therapy balanced with consistent dietary or supplementary calcium intake can be used to support individualized calcium targets.

We provide education on dietary modifications and symptom management. Our approach emphasizes personalized care to optimize outcomes.

Monitoring

Ensuring Long-Term Parathyroid Function

Long-term monitoring is crucial for individuals with parathyroid gland disorders. Regular follow-up appointments allow us to assess calcium and PTH levels and evaluate treatment effectiveness.

We provide ongoing education on dietary management and symptom monitoring. Our goal is to ensure sustained healthy calcium levels and prevent adverse effects on the bone health or kidney function.
